CAN WE REFER to missionary societies and apostolic teams in the same breath? Weren't "the twelve" the only "real" apostles? These are natural questions for many who consider the New Testament gift of apostleship as one of the "temporary" gifts. They reason that since the Church is built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets (Eph 2:20) and, since no other foundation can ever be laid, these two gifts are no longer found in the Church (Stott 1968:27).
