Agency Roundup: June 22, 2009
Giving USA’s annual report on philanthropy shows that US charitable giving was down 2% in 2008 from the previous year’s total of $314 billion. The decline was the first since 1987. (San Antonio Business Journal).
Mega-agencies
- IMB: Falling short: The IMB has been affected by the economic crisis with a downturn in its Lottie Moon Christmas Offering, which was $29 million short of its $170 million 2008 goal. As a result, the Board will tighten its belt, reducing new appointments of short-term personnel and not replacing personnel normally lost through attrition, so that their total numbers will decline by 700 in the next year. (No ongoing workers, however, will be "laid off" or recalled home.) See also IMB suspends short-term assignments, reduces new appointments.
